Join AIA Pittsburgh, R3A Architecture, and Turner Construction on a building tour of The Assembly office and laboratory space, an adaptive reuse of a former Ford Model-T manufacturing facility on Baum Boulevard.  ZGF is the design architect.  Members of the design and construction teams will discuss the unique features of the existing structure incorporated into the reuse, such as its 14’6” high ceilings, interior and exterior glass walls allowing abundant natural lighting throughout, and a prefabricated mechanical penthouse, as well as the challenges and unknowns encountered during the rehab of a century-old structure, including 3’ voids under existing slab on grades, a structural system that varied from column to column throughout the building, and floor elevations that varied as much as 2” from one area to another.
